Artifact
A practical DevOps definition, with an example you can use.
A versioned output from a build, such as a container image, package, or compiled application.
An example you can picture
A pipeline builds image api:release-17, records its digest, and deploys that exact image to staging and production. The image is the artifact; the job that built it is not.
The distinction that matters
Rebuilding the same source separately for each environment can introduce differences. Promote an identified artifact and keep its build provenance.
Put it into practice
Find the output of one build in your training repository. Record its version or digest and show where the deployment selects it. Can you prove that staging and production use the same output?
Connect the ideas: ci cd and docker image. For the bigger picture, read the related learning guide.
