Deployment
A practical DevOps definition, with an example you can use.
The act of making a particular application version run in an environment.
An example you can picture
The pipeline replaces the staging API with a tested image. A smoke test checks that the API responds before the team considers the deployment successful.
The distinction that matters
A successful deployment command does not prove that users can complete their task. Check application behaviour as well as the platform result.
Put it into practice
Write down the current application version in a lab. Deploy a small change, identify the running version, and test the behaviour you changed. Keep the evidence separate from the deployment command’s exit status.
Connect the ideas: rollback and pod. For the bigger picture, read the related learning guide.
